     The Holy cross church, Verna - Goa is one of the popular Goan churches and is locally known as the 'Verna church' in Goa. The first version of the Holy cross church according to historical records was in 1568. The Holy cross church lies in the hearts of the village of Verna.

     The Verna church is build in the traditional manner over looking the large church square. It has been build in three different places since the original construction. The present Verna church was build in 1612.

   " When the Portuguese entered this land about the year 1519.... they build an altar under the tree and consecrated the land to god with the first mass said in Salcete" - oriente conquistado . The mass was probably celebrated by a Dominican priest. The Feast of Holy cross church is celebrated on the Sunday which comes after 14 September every year.

St. Clara's church

                                     St. Clare Church, Assonora, Goa is called ‘Santa Clara Igreja em Assonora, Goa’ in Portuguese. St. Clare Church, Assonora, Goa is popularly called ‘The Assonora Church’ locally in Goa. The Assonora church was originally a chapel built in 1781. The Assonora Chapel was however burnt down several times by the Marathas and was rebuilt every time it was destroyed. The Assonora chapel was originally affiliated to the parish of Tivim to the St Christopher Church in Tivim. The Assonora Chapel was raised to the status of a Parish of St. Clare Church, Assonora on 18.10.1805.

BISHOPS PALACE

The Bishops Palace also known as the Patriarcal Palace is situated in Altinho the hillock overlooking the city of Panaji. It is one of the main attraction in this area and is the residence of the Archbishop of Goa.  In order to reflect the elevation of the Archbishop to a Patriarch, the Bishop's Palace was constructed.
