Chapora Fort

Chapora Fort Chapora Fort is located northern Goa overlooking the Vagator beach and lies at a distance of  about 10kms from Mapusa. The fort was build by Portuguese in 1617 for the defence of their territories from Marathas. Before the Portuguese, Adil Shah rulers of Bijapur had build a fort. After the resign of Adil shah, the Portuguese took  control of the fort and rebuilt it in 1617. The fort was rebuild for the defence of their territories in the face of several attacks by the Marathas. The Portuguese build underground tunnels in the fort to escape during the times of emergency. The Portuguese ruled Chapoara fort for more then 150 years. Marathas under the Sambhaji conquered the fort twice. Then the Portuguese again gain control over the fort in 1741.and in 1892 the fort was abundant. Church Of St. Cajetan St. Cajetan is also known as the church of divine  providence and is located in Old Goa. The architect of this church is breathtaking and has minor influences of Corinthian style of architecture. The interiors of this church is divided into two different sections that have both many aisles and also huge pillars. The model of this church is said to have greatly inspired from the original design of Basilica in Rome. In 1661 the construction of this church was completed and is considered as one of the beautiful churches of Goa.

Corjuem Fort

Corjuem Fort It is located near Mapusa river in Aldona village. Corjuem fort is one of the main forts build by Portuguese in 1705 and stands 4 km away from Pomburpa.  Although this is one of the smaller forts in Goa, it has gained a name for itself, not only for being one of two inlands forts which has survived into the 21st century but also for the panoramic vistas that can be seen from its ramparts.  The fort provides a beautiful view of inland and demonstrates it's strategic  importance.  The fort has an architectural significance as it is constructed of laterite stones.  It is build in a square shape, it has bastions at each of the four corners with embrasures for cannons.  It's history, architectural significance makes this fort a popular spot in Goa.

Aguada Fort

Aguada Fort The Aguada Fort was built by the Portuguese colonial rulers in 1612   to prevent the entry of ships into the River Mandovi thus protecting old Goa   from the attacks of Dutch and Marathas. It is located in Candolim 17km from Panjim. The port got its name Aguada meaning water. Aguada Fort is one of the prime Goa tourist places and one of the major heritage sites in Goa state. Fort Aguada will never fail to immerse you in the rich history of Goa. Every hook and corner tells a tale of Goa's past. Architecture, Central Jail and Lighthouse. It is a fine example of Portuguese Architecture. Made up of laterite stone, which is widely available in Goa . The Aguada Fort walls built are 5 ft. high and 1.3 m. thick, conform to the natural terrain. The fourth side has a gate facing the river.
