The
Aguada Fort was built by the Portuguese colonial rulers in 1612 to prevent the entry of ships into the River
Mandovi thus protecting old Goa from the attacks of Dutch and Marathas. It is
located in Candolim 17km from Panjim. The port got its name Aguada meaning
water. Aguada Fort is one of the prime Goa tourist places and one of the major
heritage sites in Goa state. Fort Aguada will never fail to immerse you in the
rich history of Goa. Every hook and corner tells a tale of Goa's past.
