                       PILAR SEMINARY / FR. AGNELO SEMINARY      Pilar Seminary is one among the two surviving seminaries out of the four originally build by the Portuguese. This stands on a hillock at Goa Velha .       The  Capuchin monks founded the Seminary in 1613. A University of  Science, Arts and Theology was established in the premises of the Pilar Monastery in 1633.       The beautiful seminary features a marble platform, altar and amazingly beautiful stained windows which were build in Germany. The beautiful old church at the seminary has an exquisite baroque doorway made out of carved stone. THE COLLEGE GATE OF ST.PAUL

Front and back view of ST.PAUL GATE.          THE COLLGE GATE OF ST.PAUL This stone gate , built in 1542 , led to the college of St. Paul . It has an arched opening with a niche at the top and a cross crowning it. on either side of the arch is column of the Corinthian order on a raised plinth while the arch itself is supported by  pilasters of the doric order .No structural remains of the college is visible now .But as per the description of the travellers , it had 200 teachers and  3000 students in 1556.The first printing press in ASIA was introduced here. The body of St. Francis Xavier brought from MALACA was initially kept here.

              HOLY CROSS CHURCH, VERNA - GOA      The Holy cross church, Verna - Goa is one of the popular Goan churches and is locally known as the 'Verna church' in Goa. The first version of the Holy cross church according to historical records was in 1568. The Holy cross church lies in the hearts of the village of Verna.      The Verna church is build in the traditional manner over looking the large church square. It has been build in three different places since the original construction. The present Verna church was build in 1612.    " When the Portuguese entered this land about the year 1519.... they build an altar under the tree and consecrated the land to god with the first mass said in Salcete" - oriente conquistado .                                                         TRADITIONAL  PORTUGUESE HOUSES IN GOA.  The Architectual of Portuguese style build  houses. The European life styles was encouraged in an attempt to make separate newly converted Goan Christians from their cultural roots .they adopted a European outlook but didn't cut themselves off their Indian root completely . the resulting cultural fusion affected house design. The catholic houses built between the middle of 18th and 20th century were more outward looking and ornamental with, balcoes and verandas facing the street.

The original structure of the Ribandar church was in the shape of a ship when it was build by Portuguese sailors in 1565.      Our lady of help church, Ribandar was build by Portuguese sailors in thank of Our lady who saved their them from a ship wreck. Our Lady Of Miracle Church The church of our Lady of Miracles also known as St. Jerome's Church is situated at Mapusa in North Goa. This church was originally build by Portuguese in 1594. This church was dedicated to Saint Jerome and is still often called as St. Jerome's church. The building caught fire in 1961 and a large part of it was destroyed. and after its renovation the church was dedicated to our lady of Miracle and is locally known as Milarge church. The exterior of the church is in beautiful Portuguese architecture with blonde bricks and tan coloured trim. It has an altars which is devoted to our lady of Miracle.
